Luxdomus, which means home lighting in Latin, is run by Tracey Larmond who is an Interior Designer living in Kent in the UK and Emaleen Maggi who lives in Salo’, Lake Garda, Italy.

They met back in 2011 in Italy and quickly struck up a friendship. Emaleen and her family have been involved with chandeliers for over 30 years. Her Father supplies the German market while her Cousin is based in Los Angeles.

Chandeliers are bought directly from house clearances in cities like Milan, Turin and Genoa. They are then taken to the workshop, where they are stripped, cleaned, restored and electrified. It is important to us to preserve as much as possible the original integrity of the chandelier.
Once they arrive in the UK they are then PAT Tested to comply with current British Safety Standards.

The first chandelier was lit over 130 years ago when Giuseppe Colombo, founder of the Edison Electrical Operation, brought for the first time, electricity to the La Scala Theatre in Milan.

On the 26th of December 1883 at the crowded opening of “La Gioconda di Ponchielli” the Santa Rodegona Edison Electrical centre lit 2450 light bulbs giving a most surprising and unexpected light-filled experience to the Milan theatre.
From that moment, chandeliers became very fashionable and every wealthy Italian family started to light their own homes with one or more chandeliers.

Because of this invention small family businesses began to flourish, producing their own chandeliers, copying the old models like the Maria Theresa from the 18th Century Austrian Empire, French Napoleonic Imperial style and Baroque Italian style.

Frames were built with bronze and metals of different colours, sizes and shapes and precious cut crystal drops were imported from the nearby Bohemia Czechoslovakia. From the beginning of the 1960’s Chandelier were out of fashion, but in recent times there has been a revival as people have begun to appreciate their timeless beauty and once more desire their own unique antique or vintage piece in their own home.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT OUR CHANDELIERS :  Our Chandeliers are all original antique and vintage items. Even after restoration will possibly be small defects due to the age and general conditions due to wear, which will be eventually described under the chandelier photo in then “Description” area.
